The long-awaited Copa del Rey 2020/2021 starts. 112 teams from LaLiga Santander, Smart, Segunda B and Tercera División already know who their rival is in this first round. 56 matches will be played in a single match on December 16 in lower category stadiums.
The draw for the First Round took place this morning at the La Cartuja stadium, Seville. The First Division teams competing in the Spanish Super Cup, Real Madrid, Barça, Athletic and Real Sociedad, have not been part of the draw and will later join the competition.
Cardassar-Atlético de Madrid
Some of the most anticipated matches are Cardassar-Atlético de Madrid, Lucena-Sevilla, Terrassa-Valencia. Cardassar is a team from Palma de Mallorca that will seek to eliminate one of the great teams in Europe, Atlético de Madrid.
For its part, the Cordovan team Club Deportivo Ciudad de Lucena will try to beat the current UEFA League champion, Sevilla. Another of the great pairings is that of Terrassa-Valencia. The local team hopes to beat Javi García’s team.
Two Copa del Rey finals in 14 days
Due to the health crisis of the coronavirus, the final of the Copa del Rey 2019/2020 could not be played between Real Sociedad and Athletic de Bilbao. The organization has announced that it will be played on April 4, 2021. A few days later, on April 18, the final of the current season will be played between the two teams that manage to reach the final.
If Athletic or Real Sociedad manage to pass the relevant qualifying rounds, they would play two finals in two weeks.
